Dynamo action between two rotating discs

نویسندگان

چکیده

Dynamo action is considered in the region between two differentially rotating infinite discs. The boundaries may be insulating, perfectly conducting or ferromagnetic. In absence of a magnetic field, various well-known self-similar flows arise, generalising that von Kármán. Magnetic field instabilities with same similarity structure are sought. kinematic eigenvalue problem found to have growing modes for Rem>Rc≃100. growth rate real and ferromagnetic cases, but complex insulating boundaries. As Rem→∞ it shown dynamo can fast slow, depending on flow structure. slow case, governed by boundary layer one saturates solution nonlinear problem. bifurcation subcritical dynamos Rem≳0.7Rc. Finally, flux energy large r examined, determine which solutions might generalise finite It tend inward flux, so unlikely realised practice. Slow outward found. suggested average rotation should non-zero

Elastico-Viscous Flow between Two Rotating Discs of Different Transpiration for High Reynolds Numbers (RESEARCH NOTE)

The flow in an elastico-viscous fluid between two co-axial infinite rotating porous discs is considered for high cross flow Reynolds number. The discs are rotating with different angular velocity and the injection rate of the fluid at one disc is different from the suction rate of other disc. The effect of suction parameters on the velocity components have been investigated numerically and solv...

Outflows from dynamo-active protostellar accretion discs

An axisymmetric model of a cool, dynamo-active accretion disc is applied to protostellar discs. Thermally and magnetically driven outflows develop that are not collimated within 0.1AU. In the presence of a central magnetic field from the protostar, accretion onto the protostar is highly episodic, which is in agreement with earlier work.

The Rotating Discs Argument Defeated

The rotating discs argument (RDA) against perdurantism has been mostly discussed by metaphysicians, though the argument of course appeals to ideas from classical mechanics, especially about rotation. In contrast, I assess the RDA from the perspective of the philosophy of physics. I argue for three main conclusions. The first conclusion is that the RDA can be formulated more strongly than is usu...

Linear Thermoplastic Analysis of FGM Rotating Discs with Variable Thickness

This work presents thermoplastic analysis of FG rotating diskswith variable thickness and constant angular velocity. The solutions are obtained by variable material property (VMP) theory. In this theory, the domain is divided into some finite sub-domains in the radial direction, in which the properties are assumed to be constant and the form of the elastic response is used to solve elastic-plas...
